Reflection

The process of making this website was very interesting, exciting and fun. It was exciting as I looked forward to what other things I can discover to make this website better. The tools on this website are very simple and easy to understand and by utilising these tools I hoped to make it seem as close to being like a website made for a real film as possible and make it seem as though it has motion when it doesnt. I would have really hoped we could make a website that we can add animation too. In addition, maybe use a program where there are more options to the music that you can include to your website. As there were some problems when I wanted to add background music to the website. The music would start right from the beginning again when entering another page, if someone was to visit the site, this would be very annoying and the use of the music would be defeated instead it would have a negative affect and be a nuisance. I think I have done everything I wanted and imagined for this website, though, I'd be even happier if I could have found more suitable music to go with the film and its themes.

**Characters
Blaire: Blaire is the main character of the film and the story is set from her point of view. Normally she is a bright, well-mannered girl with a good sense of humour. Although after the disappearance of her boyfriend, Nate, she is driven to an unpleasant person, who turns her friends against her and stops at nothing to find the truth.

Nate:  Nate is Blaire’s boyfriend who disappears (actually dies). He had a loving relationship with Blaire and has always been there for her. He is a romantic and will do anything to make her happy.

Serena: Serena is the popular girl in this situation. She is good friends with Blaire and Nate. She can sometimes get out of hand at parties, and this leads Blaire to believe she has a fling with Nate eve though they didn’t. Serena is loyal, bubbly, outgoing and truly is a good friend.

Dan: Dan is Nate’s best friend, and is also pretty close to Blaire and Serena. He is a kind guy who is nice to everyone. He tries to be there for Blaire after Nate’s disappearance, but she only pushes him away and accuses him for her loss.

Blaires Parents: Blaire’s parents throughout the film are mysterious characters and you are always questioning if they were the ones who killed Nate. They are protective of their daughter, but some of their actions are quite questionable.

Storyline Brief
One year ago,
Thomas Bresson, a brilliant and ambitious lawyer, and Elise, his finacee,
hit a man on the street by accident and ran away.

from this time, every night, Thomas is haunted by the same nightmare.
Haunted by the guilt, Elise warns him
that she can't keep this terrible secret any longer. In a furious frenzy, Thomas begins
his way to Hell.

But his path is to take many turns...

1.    Separately discuss the overall feel developed for each film’s promotional materials (is it clean, crisp and bright or dark, moody and grungy etc.)? Be as descriptive as possible, you could discuss the colours, textures, tone and use of movement in the website to create interest in the film.

2.    For each film reflect on how the film’s website is laid out. Look at the links, font and how the information or promotional materials are presented. Create a ‘tree’ which diagrammatically shows how the pages are linked to each other.

3.    Identify the Target Audience for each site (who are they? what age, interests, etc.) and discuss whether you feel the website is effective in appealing to this intended audience.

4.    Talk about what you like/dislike about the promotional material for each film. Why?

5.    Find a poster or advertisement for each film, save the images in to your folder and insert here. In as much detail as possible discuss the following:

·      The colour scheme: cool, warm, analogous, complementary, sensitive, calming, exciting, vibrant, simple, etc. and how it makes you feel
·      The focal point:  where do your eyes focus and why?
·      Sense of Balance:  Is the advertisement balanced in terms of line, tone, layout?
·      Harmony:  Do all of the advertisements elements (line, tone, colour, texture etc.) work well together to create harmony or a sense of completion
·      Unity: which elements unite or make the advertisement effective eg.  Use of a dominant colour scheme and high contrast to create unity.
·      What is the overall message being communicated about the film through the visual language in the poster or advertisement?

Final Blog Reflection on Film

What did you learn?                                                  What worked well?
What would you change?                                          Overall evaluation/extra thoughts

I have learnt many things from this assignment. Such as the use of different camera angles, lighting and setting, how to use the editing program 'Final Cut Pro' and teamwork. Many of these things have worked well for us as a group to achieve the final product of our films. If we had the chance, I would add more shots into the film to emphasize further some important moments and set a base music in the background so that the sounds edited in would flow better. Unfortunately, I was unable to find anything suitable for this film or what I believe would be suitable.

Some things that I have done within the film to hopefully achieve certain things is that at the beginning in the first scene where our main character wakes up the sudden scenes where it you see stripes were meant to be a sign that something will show up soon or that something is missing that something definitely is wrong.
There are certain areas where there is no music at all and I was hoping to do this so that the audience would concentrate on what is being said and hopefully these sudden breaks are not too obvious to the person who watches for the first time, tho it maybe obvious in the second viewing xP There is also a slight build up right after the news is broken to the main character about her boyfriend then a sudden stop to emphasis the importance of this news to the main character.
The whole  film was made into black and white to avoid the different lighting within the film that makes a certain scene seem out of place and the scenes from the main characters memories have been changed to a different colour than just black and white in accordance to the change to the scenes that were coloured.
In the ending, after the scene where the main character was hit there are reverse scenes of all her memories that she has recovered and that she has pieced everything together and then we see her shocked faced before the whole thing ends. This was meant to kind of leave the audience hanging at a climax and think 'what's going to happen next?'.

It was a very enjoyable experience in the production of this film despite all the problems and how time consuming it was. Even though I have not handed in a film that is exactly how I have imagined to be like, I am still very satisfied with its current state and wouldn't regret anything.

Answering Questions

1.    Describe any problems or difficulties your group encountered during the planning. These may include; organizational problems, group related issues, etc.

We didn't encounter any problems except for the one time when we had difficulty finding a suitable time to all get together and get filming done but other than that, everything else was pretty smooth. We didn't really have any problems with getting each other, we got the work done though the teacher may think different but i think our group worked pretty well in just getting it done.

2.    Clarify any time-management issues your group encountered during the planning process and describe the steps you implemented to improve in this area;

After some discussion, we were finally able to decide on one of the weekends and get everything done in one day. This worked very well for us as it didn't take as long as we expected. I even got some exercise that day in walking home before it got dark.

3.    Discuss whether your group made effective use of the provided templates to assist the film-making process;

We didn't really use any of the templates we used for planning, this is because we had the image of what we wanted in our minds and to just remind us of what we wanted we only had a look at our shot list once in a while.

4.    Explain whether the planning process helped your group during filming. In particular, discuss whether the use of devices such as storyboards, shot-lists, and rough edits assisted throughout the filming process;

Planning process helped our group immensely as a build up to filming as we didn't really refer to it during filming but the process did help us gather our ideas and have a clear image of what we wanted to achieve.

5.    Describe any problems or difficulties your group encountered during the filming process. These may include; organization problems, unreliable cast members, group related issues, equipment problems, etc.

One of casts on the day could not stay long as he had to go to training but we were still able to get everything done as we did his scene first. Other than that, everything went pretty smoothly.

6.    After reviewing your footage and completing the rough cut of your film, describe any aspects of your film, which need to be addressed. i.e does your group need to reshoot any scenes; are any additional shots required; are there any scenes which worked better than expected.

Stephs idea of filming as she rolled the camera as though it was Nate rolling down turned out really well. In addition to our improv of throwing the rock into the water and just filming the splash as though it was Nate who fell in. I beleive we don't need to refilm anything as after some editing and putting some bits and pieces together, it looks really good.

7.    List any skills, techniques or tricks you have discovered during the project.

I discovered that zooming in slowly while the camera was still running is really difficult as it's hard to keep it smooth and not zoom in too much that you'd have to zoom out again.

8.    Discuss whether you undertook adequate and detailed reflection to throughout your project. Have you provided enough evidence to support your work? (Look back at your blogs/journals and think about whether it looks like 6 weeks worth of work).

I think I have blogged regularly? at least i hope i have.

Discuss your feelings about the production task:
9.    Are you satisfied with your groups final result?

yes, as it didn't take long and still turned out great.

10.    Would like to change any aspects of your film?

Yes, but that's why we still have to edit the film right? otherwise whats the point of editing if i didn't want to change any part of it. xD

Ideas:
- screeennnnnn for the flashbacks
- cut the ending down a bit so that it cuts off just as the fry pan hits her hand. ( cut off retrieval part)
-  I think we need to add a bit of the flashback to after the talk with serena and start the the nxt flashback with the fight just before he falls.

11.    If you could start the project again what would you do differently?

I wouldn't do anything different, I like it when things go smoothly and quickly.

Throughout the time of filming, we were very lucky that the weather on the day was really good and the lighting was just right, so we didnt really have much trouble in getting through filming. We made sure that if we were to do any retakes or shoot the same scene from a different angle that everything was consistant. This also meant that our main character had to change outfits back and forth during filming depnding on what we decided to film first. Our outfits were very casual and modern as it the storyline is set in the present. This also made it really simple for us to film and not have to worry about what can be shown and what can't for example if it was set in the olden times, you wouldnt be able to have a modern car in the background. There was a part where our actor/actress was unable to act including dialogue without having to cut halfway through so we decided to have no dialogue instead put music for that part and they  just needed to do the acting part. There was also a part where the main character slaps her boyfriend, for the sound of the 'slap', as we do not want to literally slap the actor, the boyfriend timed it that he clapped his the moment the main character pretends to slap him in the face. Overall the shooting was smooth and we did not have much trouble at all, it was a fun experience that I learnt many things from.

Reflection

YAYYYY!!! we finished filming yesterday :DDD
Hopefully we have everything we need but I'm pretty sure we do. It went really smoothly and quickly yesterday and we had a lot of fun.

Today Miss Preston gave us an intro to final cut pro.
To start we set up a new project
Then input footage
Final Cut Pro -> easy set up -> Format Apple Intermediate Codec Use Apple Intermediate Codec 720p30 29.97 -> set up
Final Cut Pro -> System settings -> Scratch disks set to hard drive
Drag footage onto timeline
Stretch grey bar to change how much of the timeline you can see
Unlink footage if you don't want the sound
If a red line appears something needs to be rendered
Sequence -> render
razor tool  to cut footage
then arrow to move and shuffle parts around
Drag transitions and put in between ur clips onto timeline
Video filters to make footage black and white etc.

Afterrr.... just played around with final cut pro xD
